Thursday, June 19, 2014:
Today students will remain in corporations and work on their presentations and final touches for the project!!!

Wednesday, June 18, 2014:

Our Marketing and Media Specialists group had an exciting day today! Whitney Randolph from The Malone Telegram came to visit today to talk to our department about Marketing and Media. She allowed the students to ask questions about her job and discuss what her job is all about. Ms. Randolph then roamed freely around the 8 corporations and asked other groups about their project and took pictures. We are very happy that she was able to come in and help us out! Thank you again to Ms. Randolph and The Malone Telegram!

Tuesday, June 17, 2014:
Students finished up all flyers, billboards, and other projects their corporation wanted them to complete. Students began filling out graphic organizers and worked on their presentations. Students will present their ideas to their corporation and in hopes to come up with a finalized plan for their final presentation tomorrow.

Monday, June 16, 2014:
Today the Marketing and Media Specialists group presented their work to Carthage School! Students greeted the visitors at the door with a firm handshake, eye contact, and introduced themselves.Students Erika and Madison introduced the entire group and what their job description is. Students showed the visiting school their billboards, flyers, business cards, logos, commercials, etc. Students also answered questions that the teachers and administrators had and enjoyed themselves thoroughly. Students enjoyed the school visit and hope to see more schools come and visit them!

Friday, June 13, 2014: Happy Friday! Students worked on their weekly reports and discussed what they learned this week, what they plan on doing next week, and what was one aspect they enjoyed from this week. Students also got together all of their items for Monday's school visit from Carthage! Students prepared to have or discuss their business cards, commercials, flyers, billboards, weekly reports, logos, jingles, calling the public, etc. We are looking forward as marketing and media specialists to share all of our hard work!

Thursday, June 12, 2014:
Today we had an assembly from 8:30-9:30 with Chelsea Sunday  (alcohol/drug representative). The assembly was very valuable for students so they could see the effects that drug and alcohol use have and how it can effect their future. Due to this presentation students lost all of their department time but it was well worth it. After the assembly was over students returned to their corporations to continue working on their project.

Wednesday, June 11, 2014: Today we as a department watched the new commercials posted by the newsroom. Students stated what they enjoyed from each commercial and what was different from the first commercial. Students enjoyed viewing other corporation's commercials and loved seeing the creativity shine through! We had an assembly this morning from the Thompson brothers and students saw how school can take them to many different places and can allow them to reach their goals. Even though we lost time in our departments this morning it was a wonderful presentation!

Tuesday, June 10, 2014: Students continued practicing their script with a partner and were working on their confidence to call local newspapers today. Two very brave students Erika Reardon and Macy David volunteered to call the Malone Telegram and Indian Times. Their other classmates listened and waited patiently to hear the results. Erika called the Malone Telegram and they said they were very interested but their reporters were not in at the moment. They took our number and said they would get back to us as soon as possible. Macy called Indian Times and she confirmed a visit from them with a reporter when they were available. Both students were commended by their classmates and now have inspired other students to want to try calling other companies! Tomorrow we plan on reaching out to local radio stations in hopes to get interviewed by them to get our project out into the public even more!

Monday, June 9, 2014:
Welcome back! I hope you all enjoyed the beautiful weather! Today in the Marketing and Media Specialists group students worked on creating scripts for making phone calls today. Students are working on getting our project out to the public and are trying to get newspapers, radio stations, and even local news stations to come in or interview us about our project. Students spent a majority of the day thinking of potential questions they should be able to answer such as, What is Agbotics? What are the tasks your robot could complete? etc. Students practiced "fake" phone calls with their partners and with me as well. Students will continue to work on this tomorrow and will hopefully be placing phone calls to the public by Wednesday.
Friday, June 6, 2014:
Today students got together with their corporation to practice their commercials and many of the groups finished recording them. Students continued brainstorming ideas of who we could contact to come look at our project and how to get our project out into the public. Students wrote rough drafts as to how they would approach the person over the phone and they practiced that with their partner. Students will hopefully be making calls to the public next week! Nice work this week to all of the departments and corporations!

Thursday, June 5, 2014:
This morning we had field testing provided by New York State which took up a majority of our morning. Students practiced their new commercials and even some of the groups got to record them in Mr. Barkley's newsroom. Students also worked on other advertisements to be placed in the newspaper. Students are also brainstorming different ways to inform the public and other schools about what we are doing here at Salmon River. Students have thought about contacting newspapers, radio stations, and even local news broadcasters to get the word out about all of the wonderful work that we are doing here!!!

Wednesday, June 4, 2014:
Today we as a class developed our writing even further by studying play writing and how it can be used in developing our commercials. Students learned about characters, dialogue, setting, stage directions, scene, etc. Students again reviewed their first commercial and developed 3-4 ideas to present to their corporation's CEO. Students wrote scripts and created ideas to present in their corporations later this afternoon. Students enjoyed letting their creative side and persuasive side show through in developing their commercials.

Tuesday, June 3, 2014: Today we as a group watched each corporation's commercial and talked about aspects they did a good job on and parts they could improve on. Students recorded feedback in their notebooks to present to their corporations later in the day. Students enjoyed this process because they got feedback from their own peers and could see ways to improve their next commercial. Students will have their next commercial completed by Monday June 9th for viewing!

Monday, June 2, 2014: Today we as entire sixth grade went on a field trip to Clarkson University to see the Agbotics Program! This field trip was very informative and wonderful for our students to participate it. It helped all areas of our project and encouraged our students to expand on their ideas. Here are some videos on what we got to see today! Enjoy!

Friday, May 30, 2014:
Today students participated in 5th grade orientation! Students worked in their corporations all morning and presented their materials to the various groups of students traveling in and out of the room. Students talked to the fifth graders as experts and enjoyed seeing how eager their peers were for Middle School. In the afternoon we returned to our departments and added color to our billboards and finishing touches. Students also completed their weekly reports and turned them into their CEO's. To hear the students laughing and seeing their creativity come out onto their displays makes this yet another successful week! Thank you again to the fifth grade students and staff for coming in and exploring our rooms! We are very excited to be working with you next year!!!

Thursday, May 29, 2014: After many revisions and discussions between the students and their corporations, majority of the marketing and media specialists received final approval from their CEO's in order to create their billboard to be hung outside of their corporation. Students worked extremely hard for the short amount of time that they had due to an assembly at 9 a.m. Students plan to continue creating their billboards in their corporations today and plan to have them completed no later than Friday afternoon. Be watching in the hallways to see what advertisements we've created!

Wednesday, May 28, 2014:
Students were in an out of the room today helping their corporations prepare for their commercial shoot. Students were collaborating well with their peers to make sure the job got done. Once everything calmed down students began finalizing their corporation's billboard. The marketing and media specialists also began creating different ideas for business cards to bring back to their corporations when they meet later this afternoon. Students seem to be getting the concept of "less is more" and enjoy seeing their images come to life.

Tuesday, May 27, 2014:
Welcome back! Hope everyone enjoyed their long weekend and had a wonderful Memorial Day! This morning the CEO's and Marketing and Media Specialists worked together in groups to create a short commercial for investors to potentially buy into their product. Students created scripts, jingles, and even produced larger logos to be used during their filming which will be produced tomorrow morning. Once students had a clear outline of what they wanted to say and show they began practicing for filming right away. Quick shout out to the News room, WE ARE VERY EXCITED TO BE FINALLY WORKING WITH YOU!!! Be sure to check out our commercials tomorrow afternoon on the News page!

Friday, May 23, 2014:

Today we had fresh start to our morning with a presentation from Salmon River's own alumni Mr. Matt Healy! Mr. Healy is in his junior year at Lebanon Valley College and today he provided us with some very helpful insight in becoming better media and marketing specialists! Mr. Healy has designed helmets for his teammates on his college hockey team and has also created logos for a MLL (Major League Lacrosse) team out of Hawaii. Mr. Healy gave us advice during his presentation to keep the design simple but different from everyone else. He also stated that we as a team must communicate our images in a clear way to our target audience to attract our investors. At the end of the class period Mr. Healy sat down with each group and reviewed each corporation's logo. He gave feedback and provided suggestions by showing them what he would do differently, but commended all students on their impressive work.  We look forward to Mr. Healy coming back in to see our progress and working with him in the future!

Thursday, May 22, 2014:
Today we had an exciting afternoon by starting off with creating questions as a department that we could present to Mr. King (Partner in king&king Architects). Students created a solid ten questions to ask Mr. King pertaining to Marketing and Media Specialists. Students introduced themselves to Mr. King with a firm hand shake and a bright smile something similar to this: Students asked their questions to Mr. King and wrote down notes in their notebook to look back at at a later date and time as a reference. Mr. King was impressed with our questions and is eager to see our progress as Marketing and Media Specialists as we reach closer to our presentations. We ended today by making sure all of our logos and information were turned into Mr. Barkley's Newsroom so we could have our first form of advertisement for our corporations. Students ended the day by researching billboards and created rough draft ideas to present to their corporations the following day.
Wednesday, May 21, 2014: Today students discovered the process of designing logos, letterheads, business cards, and envelopes. Students also learned different ways to manipulate shapes through illustrating basic shapes and letters. Once the students had background knowledge provided to them they then created ideas and drafts of logos for their corporation's to be presented in the afternoon. Students collaborated with peers and received constructive feedback to alter or provide positive suggestions to make the design better by completing a gallery walk.

Tuesday, May 20, 2014: Today students learned about the scope of marketing. Students recorded the following information into their notebooks. Students identified that marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion, and distribution of ideas, goods, and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organizational objectives. Students also identified the seven marketing core functions which are: selling, channel management, marketing information management, market planning, pricing, service management, and promotion. Students also discussed and created a chart of desires and needs for their corporation. They also identified and stated the differences between the two vocabulary words.

Monday, May 19, 2014: Students attended Monday Morning Meeting to see the mission video provided by Clarkson University students to launch the Agbotics Project. Students were then placed into their departments and congratulated on all of their hard work during the interviewing process. The Marketing and Media Specialists group began devising their driving question and came up with: How can we as Marketing and Media Specialists provide advertisements for the Agbotics Project? Students then created their "Needs to Know List" (series of questions they will answer and check off and expand on as the project continues) and placed it on the bulletin board along with their driving question. Students then identified their roles, responsibilities, and tasks they would need to complete in their notebooks. Students also worked together to create a list of phone numbers (that is on going) of potential customers, farmers, or informational based people to discuss ideas with. Students were asked for homework to come in with more phone numbers and ideas to add to our list.
